WR men, SR women lift volleyball trophies

Western Railway men and Southern Railway women won titles in the All-India Railway Volleyball Championship, which concluded here at the East Coast Railway Stadium today. In the keenly-contested men`s final, Western Railway, who earlier eliminated defending champions Southern Railway in the semifinals, beat Integral Coach Factory (ICF) by 3-2 sets (25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 16-25, 15-12). Southern Railway women retained their title, edging out Central Railway in the hard-fought final by 3-2 sets (25-23, 22-25, 18-25, 25-22, 15-12).

Earlier in the women`s semifinals, Sourthern Railway thrashed Western Railway by 3-1 sets (21-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-18), while Central Railway beat Eastern Railway by 3-0 sets (25-22, 25-18, 25-22). In the men`s category, ICF faced stiff fight against Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) before winning by 3-2 sets (27-29, 14-25, 25-18, 25-22, 15-13) and Western Railway beat Southern Railway by 3-0 sets (25-23, 25-20, 25-19).

Host East Coast Railway General Manager Indra Ghosh presented the trophies to the champion team in the presence of KIIT University founder Achyuta Samant and East Coast Railway Sports Association president Arjun Mundiya. A colourful souvenir was released on the occasion.
